Dr Gilles Lericolais has been a marine geologist/geophysicist at Ifremer since 1984 and has joined more than 10 scientific cruises as Chief Scientist. From 1997 to 2011, he led a collaborative project focused on sedimentary records and processes across marine margins. Lericolais coordinated the Fifth Framework Programme (FP5) ASSEMBLAGE project focused on the Black Sea sedimentary systems, acted as the Regional Coordinator for the Black Sea in the FP6 HERMES Project and WorkPackage Leader for the HYPOX FP7 project. From 2006 to 2011, he was in charge of the Laboratory of Sedimentary Environments at Ifremer and responsible for the Ifremer project ‘Margins and Sedimentary systems’. In 2007, he was nominated as an expert for the International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) and acted as Vice Chair (2009-2010) and Chair (2011-2013) of the Site Survey Panel for IODP. Lericolais is the author of over 700 communications and publications, a member of the European Marine Board, Science Europe and EurOceans, and an alternate member of the JPI Oceans Management Board. In 2011, he was appointed Director of European and International Affairs at Ifremer and is therefore an active participant of its Management Board.
