Lowri Evans, Director General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries at the European Commission, holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Liverpool University in the UK, and originally trained as a Chartered Accountant. Prior to joining the Commission, Evans worked in Audit and Accountancy with Deloitte Haskins & Sells. In 1983, she joined the Commission as an Administrator in the Directorate General (DG) for Financial Control. Four years later, she became a case officer in DG Competition. Between 1993 and 1994 she was a Member of the Cabinet of Commissioner Flynn and in 1995 was appointed Head of Unit in DG Employment. In 2000 she re-joined DG Competition, where she was subsequently appointed Head of Unit, Director, and Deputy Director-General in 2006. Most recently, in July 2010, Evans was appointed Director General of DG Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.
